Alfie Hewett wins Cruyff Foundation Junior Masters boys’ singles title

Not only has the Dogs produced world champions at crazy golf and drinking but we may have actually helped a talented young man get to his full potential……Many of you will remember some time ago in 2006 how the DOGS raised some money to Astro Turf Alfie Hewitt’s garden, well the lad has only gone and done it and won the Junior Master title at the weekend…Well done Alfie and congratulations from ALL at the DOGS!

Here are a couple of links following Alfies excellent recent result!!

Xmas 2011 Event Goes Ahead………

Our final DOGS event of the year was held on Thursday 15th and for the first time in a while we didn’t have to cancel due to the weather. Now we’re not saying it was great weather as it rained in the morning and was frikkin cold (The club sold quite a few gloves and hats that day :-) ) but the port and the mulled wine did their best to keep us all happy…or in the case of some…very jolly..Tim!! Thanks to all the people who joined us for the day, it was great to see you all and good to see all our regulars who always attend no matter what for each event, you’ll be remembered.

The day started off in the rain but as you can see it didn’t stop the eventual winners getting prepared for the round ahead, Chris is seen here explaining to his team what they have scored on each hole…who would believe Chris is the Handicap Secretary….

I mean Richard even decided it wasn’t worth using any of his clubs as he’s already got par on this hole!…

As Tim only had only one friend Tony, out of the Kindness of Our Hearts, we said he could join our team…Well I’m sure that Tiger wouldn’t get this type of support on his shots!….And Tim’s best tee shot of the day was using a wine bottle as a tee, Tony tried it, hit the bottle, bottle flew and the ball nearly fell on the tee….

Whilst going round the course did anyone hear the lyrics “Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, never gonna run around and desert you, never gonna make you cry, never gonna say goodbye, never gonna tell a lie and hurt you”….Well little did you know that these dulcet tones were from Rick Astley singing ” Never gonna give you up”.” who had joined us for the day, however you will; note that he has put on a little extra weight since the 80′s ;-)

Welcome back to Steve and his team, we missed you!

And finally, the IBM’ers were here supporting us yet again, bringing a raffle prize each…thanks guys….I think Digger is excited that his tee had gone “this far”…a record for our old pal digger!.

Somehow we managed to raise about £625 for the local cat charity, much to Tim’s efforts heckling everyone to buy raffle tickets, well done to everyone, especially Gary and his team at Costessey for yet again making the day special.

Well another year over for the DOGS and 2012 to look forward to….We are looking to relaunch the DOGS next year and we and the charities NEED your support to make it a success. Dust them clubs down and join us in the New Year. We are after all looking to do a DOGS, Costessey and possibly Norwich a NIGHT TIME golf event, keep watching this space…

The DOGS would like to wish all our DOGS and DOGETTE’s a great Christmas and New Year!

If you want to see the photo’s they are all here for you.

Be there and start off your Christmas in style!

We’re Back!

After nearly a years absence and with the weather in our favor for a change we held our 1st event of the year.

This time we were looking to raise some money for the East Anglian Air Ambulance on the behalf of the Costessey Park Captain charity and also the NSPCC for Rob Lines and Rachael Prew who are fundraising like mad for an event they are doing in a few weeks time. Not only did the teams bring prizes in for the raffle but some sterling work was done by Rob and Rachael to pester some of the local shops, hotels, golf courses etc to get some prizes in. Also a big thanks to the SCC team being led by one of the original “Ryder Cup” captains Ken Martin who donated a laptop for the Irish Bingo…Thanks to everyone who bought tickets as we managed to raise £1000 to be split evenly between the EAAA and the NSPCC..Well Done !!

It was good to see so many familiar faces and people who were not only new to the “The DOGS” but also golf, we even had people returning from injury. Not sure what attracted our newbies….was it the chance to learn a new sport, a luvly walk, catch up with old friends..oh no, it was just a day out the office and the drink!…and wasn’t it great to see our Gilliam back hassling us to buy raffle tickets…welcome back we have missed you!

One of the people returning was our friend Hogi. He has been away for two years with injury but he couldn’t wait to get back and enjoy a “Sherry” or two. Now he hasn’t played for two years but somehow he managed to be the best player in the “Three men and a Jock” team and that’s even after this Tee shot…

Yep he didn’t make it passed the ladies Tee, in fact it didn’t make 10 feet, yet he was our best player! We decided it was best he didn’t drop his trousers for the rest of the round, as not many people had their sunglasses with them and Hogi is a true jock and has them good old Scottish white  legs!

I’m not sure how Ross does it…I printed off his score before he went round to save him putting them down on the 1st tee…he was peeved that it wasn’t over a 100 points, but celebrating winning the Irish Bingo with a cigar 5 hours before we called the numbers out….

I suppose it was champagne in the coolers too….

I always thought that Tim and Jason were a little harsh on our old mate Ian. Winding him up about his mansion, gardeners, maids, chauffeurs etc but we all seen it first hand now gladders!.

Here you can see Ian directing his butler, making sure that his ball was on a good lie…a very good lie it seems. After this picture was taken they were seeing disappearing into the bushes as Ian needed to relieve himself…Bottle in one hand and a glass in the other, with the butler holding a bag of baby wipes….Whilst I’m here…why oh why was Mike so interested in taking photos of people going to the loo…I have removed all offending pictures due to the worry of court cases.

Now I’m no physicist, but how does Alf do this….he has swung through and the ball is hovering above the tee…Forget David Blaine we have THE Alf Mounter….

And finally…the Dogs is all about getting together and enjoying ourselves…but I believe we may have our first DOGS marriage on the way..Jiff and Craig are looking very friendly, not sure about the two bridesmaids though……Get a room guys!

We are reviewing how the day went and listening to all your comments to see if it is worth carrying on with the DOGS events. So keep your eyes out for future events, we need YOUR support.

A BIG THANKS to all these guys who donated raffle prizes..Much appreciated by everyone and well done!

Alfie Hewett Update

Remember little Alfie, in 2006 we raised money to Astro Turf Alfie’s garden. Well Alfie’s dad Ant has been in touch and he wanted to share the following great news with the Dogs.

Alfie has become the youngest Briton to gain a senior men’s singles world ranking after completing a successful summer at home and abroad.

All makes it all worth it now doesn’t it. Heres the link for the full story.

Well done Alfie keep up the good work.
